Munich
Munich is a city that offers the students the chance to experience Bavarian culture. The students can immerse themselves in the Bavarian culture by trying the local food on offer in Munich. The cycling tour will give them a chance to see all the sights in the city and learn about the different places of significance from the guide.
Sample 4 Day / 3 Night Itinerary
Day 1
- Flight from Ireland to Munich (see below for flight schedules serving Munich),
- Take a tour of the home of FC Bayern Munich – the Allianz Arena, as well as a tour of the FC Bayern Munich museum.
- Transfer to Frauenkirche where the students will get a view of the city.
- Cycling tour of the city where students will get to see the best of Munich including the famous city park surfers, Odeonsplatz, the Bavarian Parliament building and of course the farmers market, amongst other highlights.
- Transfer to accommodation for check-in and evening meal.
Day 2
- After breakfast, transfer to Neuschwanstein Castle, the castle which inspired the Disney logo.
- The students will spend the day here before being transferred back to Munich for a fun-filled afternoon at some Escape Rooms.
- Transfer to accommodation for dinner.
- More evening activity options are provided below.
Day 3
- Breakfast at accommodation.
- Transfer to Dachau Concentration Camp where the students will be taken on a guided tour and where they will learn about Germany’s dark past.
- Transfer to the Galaxy Water slide world (Therme Erding) where they will enjoy some of Europe’s largest waterslides.
- Return to Munich for some free time to walk around the city and pick up some souvenirs.
- Return to accommodation and overnight.
Day 4
- Breakfast in accommodation.
- Transfer to Jump House Munich where the students can enjoy their last morning with their classmates to end a memorable trip.
- Transfer to a shopping centre where they can ‘shop ’til they drop’ for souvenirs, or anything that catches their eye.
- Transfer to the airport for a return flight home. See below for an indication of the airports in or around Munich that serve the Irish market.
Building Your Itinerary - Cornerstones
Cornerstones are the attractions that should form the core of any itinerary – the “do not miss” items!
For us there are 4 such cornerstones to a Munich itinerary:
Cycling tour of the city, which will allow the students to see all the sights that Munich has to offer.
Dachau Concentration Camp, which gives the students a guided tour on the history of Germany.
Therme Erding (Galaxy Waterslide World), which gives the students an opportunity to enjoy an afternoon filled with thrills.
Neuschwanstein Castle, where the students can see the castle that inspired the Disney logo.
Itinerary - Day Trips
Day trip to Konigsee, a natural lake near the Austrian border. Most of the lake is situated within the Berchtesgaden National Park and they can take a boat trip along the lake.
Day trip to Neuschwanstein Castle, the castle that inspired the Disney logo. A beautiful castle located less than 2 hours away from Munich.
Day trip to Dachau Concentration Camp, and Therme Erding. The students will get a chance to learn about German history and lighten up the day after with a thrilling afternoon at Therme Erding which has 28 slides for the students to enjoy.
Itinerary Fillers and Evening Activities
Filling time and gaps in an itinerary won’t be a problem in Barcelona – trying to cut out attractions will be the challenge!
Olympiapark: Students can visit the Olympic park which was constructed for the 1972 Summer Olympics.
BMW Welt & Museum: Visit the BMW Museum where students can learn about BMW, the brand, from its past to the present, as well as the newest models of BMW.
Munich Zoo: Students can enjoy a morning or afternoon at Munich Zoo, where Hellabrunn (Munich Zoo) specialises in breeding animals close to extinction.
Bavarian Film Studios: Where students can learn all about the Bavarian Filmstadt, as well as the opportunity to experience 4D.
Bouldering: An evening activity where students can try out and experience bouldering, a popular hobby and pastime throughout Germany.
Accommodation Options
Our preferred accommodation is the A&O Hostel Hackerbrucke. This hostel has dormitory rooms which will be occupied by students only.
We offer the possibility of staying in 2/3-star hotels, subject to price change and availability.
Breakfast and dinners are provided, unless specified in the itinerary.
