Summary

The final stage of the Portuguese way is an ideal introduction to the Camino for any first-time Camino walker or for anyone who wants to avoid the longer days (and climbs) of other Camino sections.

115km spread out over 6 days is easier than the same distance from Sarria over 5 days, while the Portugués is quieter than the hustle and bustle of the more crowded Francés route.

Highlights include:

  • The old town of Tui with its 12th century cathedral, located on the Spain-Portugal border along the river Minho.
  • Arcade, famous for its oysters and a short walk from the beach at Pontesampaio.
  • The beautiful city of Pontevedra.
  • The thermal spas at Caldes de Reis.
  • Historic Padrón, where the body of St. James was said to have been brought ashore, now the home of the tasty “pimientos de Padrón”
  • Experience the walk to the cathedral of Santiago De Compostela, the end point for millions of pilgrims for over a thousand years.
